Overview

LightMatch Pro incorporates automated processing technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to assist with fixture cross-referencing. This page describes how these technologies are used and the limitations you should be aware of.

Where Automated Processing Is Used

Automated processing is applied at two points in the LightMatch Pro workflow:

1. Fixture Schedule Extraction

When you upload a PDF fixture schedule, the Service uses optical character recognition (OCR) and machine learning to extract fixture data from the document and normalize it into structured records. This converts varied text formats, abbreviations, and specifications into consistent data for cross-referencing.

2. Cross-Reference Validation

After our matching algorithm scores potential fixture matches, an optional AI validation step may reorder results, flag uncertain matches, or annotate results to help surface the most relevant alternatives.

What AI Can and Cannot Do

AI can:

  • Identify fixture types (downlights, troffers, linear, etc.)
  • Normalize specifications into consistent formats
  • Suggest cross-reference matches based on pattern matching
  • Flag uncertain or ambiguous matches for your review

AI cannot:

  • Guarantee 100% accuracy—OCR and normalization errors are possible
  • Replace your professional judgment as a lighting expert
  • Access data outside of your current project to inform results
  • Understand context that only you know (special client requirements, retrofit constraints, etc.)
  • Make financial or specification commitments on your behalf

Accuracy Expectations

LightMatch Pro achieves high accuracy in many scenarios, but is not infallible. Here's what to expect:

  • OCR Quality: Extraction quality depends on the source PDF. Low-resolution scans, unusual fonts, or complex layouts may introduce errors.
  • AI Normalization: Normalization of specs handles common formats well but may occasionally misinterpret unusual abbreviations or non-standard notation.
  • Cross-Reference Suggestions: Match suggestions are starting points, not final answers. They reflect the algorithm's best guess based on available data.

Your Responsibility

You are the expert. LightMatch Pro is a tool to speed up your research, not to replace your judgment:

  • Always verify extracted fixture data before proceeding—spot check numbers, counts, and specifications against the original PDF
  • Always verify cross-reference suggestions before submitting them to clients—do your own research on specs, availability, and pricing
  • You bear ultimate responsibility for the fixtures you specify to your clients
  • If a suggestion seems wrong, trust your expertise and investigate further

Data Processing

In the course of providing the Service, your uploaded data may be transmitted to third-party processing services for the purposes described above. All such transmissions are encrypted and subject to our data protection commitments:

  • Your individual project data is not used to train third-party AI models
  • We may use aggregated, anonymized patterns to improve our matching algorithms for all users
  • All data transmissions use industry-standard encryption

For more information about how your data is handled, please see our Privacy Policy and Data Usage Policy.
